Randy Gene Laws, age 58 of Erwin, Tennessee, passed away on November 16, 2024, at 1:10 p.m. after a brief terminal illness.
At 54, Randy began an academic journey of becoming an addiction counselor. He enrolled at Liberty University as a full-time student getting his undergraduate in Psychology and Addiction Counseling. This meant a lot to Randy because of his own personal suffering with alcoholism, as well as the family addiction that was prevalent in his life. All these things combined grew to cement his desire to dedicate the last parts of his life to achieving a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Addiction Counseling.
He wanted to help those who are so desperately needing the chains of addiction lifted from their lives. This journey has come with a successful academic achievement of obtaining and maintaining the high academic standards of a 3.76 GPA average.
Randy was awarded many honors and acknowledgements for this accomplishment. He was set to graduate from Liberty University with honors this 2024 fall semester, into the early spring semester of 2025, after completing his final semester and fulfilling all degree requirements with a Bachelor of Science in Addiction Counseling with a minor in Family Advocacy.
A native of Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Rassie Laws and Linda Buchanan Laws. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Rodney Laws; a special uncle, Ronnie Buchanan; grandparents: Jeter Biss Buchanan, Mary Whitson, and Bristoe Robinson, and Walter Laws and Ella-Jay Ray Laws.
Surviving is his grandmother, Virginia Robinson Buchanan of Burnsville; several special adopted Tennessee friends and family members: Andrea Fenn, Sara Covey, Kane Covey, and Travis Bennett, all of which are of Erwin, Tennessee.
No services are being held at this time. Interment will be held in the Cemetery of Double Island Church in Burnsville, North Carolina.
