EJ Adkins, age 69, of the Big Creek Community went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 21, 2024. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Ed and Ruth Adkins. In addition to his parents, EJ was also preceded in death by his brother, Weldon Adkins; sister, Pricilla Honeycutt; and brother-in-law, Larry Peterson.
EJ loved riding the roads, he never met a stranger, and was known for his gifted storytelling. He was such a loving, caring man with a heart of gold. Anybody who knew EJ would tell you “that man would give you the shirt off his back” or “he’s one of a kind”. Throughout his life, EJ touched the hearts of many people and he will be missed beyond measure. The love he had for his children and his family had no bounds and the love he had for his great-nieces and nephews was beyond exceptional.
He is survived by his children: Dakota Jake Adkins of Big Creek and Makenna Adkins of Micaville; five sisters: Burdella Edwards (Michael) of Erwin, TN, Yvonna Peterson of Big Creek, Mary Fouladi (Moe) of Newport Beach, CA, Felicia Honeycutt (Tony) of Big Creek, and Teresa Banks of Big Creek; and brother-in-law, Donnie Honeycutt of Prices Creek. Several nieces, nephews, and cherished great-nieces and nephews who loved him dearly also survive.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 14th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Pastor Bobby Sprinkle will officiate.
