Billy Gene Barnett, age 78, of Chuckey, TN, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 25, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Mae Whitson Barnett, as well as his son, Billy Barnett II, and his brother, Bobby Dean Barnett.
Bill had a passion for drag racing in his younger years. He was an avid golfer. He raised and showed Tennessee racking horses for numerous years. He also enjoyed trout fishing. He was a welder by trade and traveled a lot with his job. He worshipped at Bays Mountain Baptist Church. Billy will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marolyn Holder Barnett; his daughter, Melinda Barnett Crussell (Keith) of Piney Flats, TN; three grandchildren: Megan Crussell, Logan Barnett (Kirsten) and Austin Chaffin (Jenna); six great-grandchildren: Emery, Ethan, Everly, Ellis, Evans and Clark; mother-in-law, Lela Holder of Johnson City, TN; three sisters-in-law: Carolyn Caudell (Leon), Elvia Emert, and Georgia Hodge (Bill), all of Johnson City, TN; best friends: Bill Lilly (Janet) of Johnson City, TN; aunt, Shirley Hughes of Buladean; cousin, Arlena Renfro of Johnson City, TN; and special friends, Lee and Kristin Hickman of Bristol, TN. He is also survived by many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
