Williamson Glover Kerlin

Williamson Glover Kerlin, 69, of Spruce Pine, NC, passed away peacefully in his home on November 26th, 2024.

Glover courageously battled leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer, for two years.

Glover was born on October 30th,1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Nita Glover Kerlin (deceased) and Wilbur Gene Kerlin.

He grew up in Prattville, Alabama, and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1977 with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Glover’s career spanned decades in the aluminum lost foam industry with many years working as the metallurgical engineer at OMC and BRP. He was presented with the American Foundry Society’s Outstanding Individual Service Award multiple times.

Glover was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. His love of family and his thrill of being his family’s “GPop” were unsurpassed. Glover adored golf, Alabama football, world travel, continuous learning about new discoveries in science, and astronomy.

He loved sharing his knowledge with others, especially his grandchildren. In his younger years, Glover coached numerous children’s sports teams in Spruce Pine. Glover’s personality was unwaveringly optimistic. His philosophy of life was to advocate for himself and those he loved, do everything humanly possible to correct a bad situation, and then don’t worry about it. He loved fiercely, forgave quickly, and served others.

Glover is survived by his wife, Patricia; children Allen (Kierin Bernard) Kerlin of Avon, Connecticut, DJ (Evan) Skrobot of Canton, Georgia, David Kerlin of Spruce Pine, North Carolina, Taylor (Christen Thomas) Kerlin of Huntsville, Alabama, Stewart (Ashley) Kerlin of Raleigh, North Carolina; father, Wilbur Gene Kerlin of Prattville, Alabama; brothers Harvey James (Deborah) Kerlin of Brundidge, Alabama, Wilbur Gene Kerlin Jr. of Mableton, Georgia, Thomas Norwood (Stephanie) Kerlin of Arlington, Tennessee; and six grandchildren, Ansley Esco, Natalie Esco, Ava Kerlin, Mia Kerlin, Luke Skrobot, and Emma Skrobot.

Glover’s funeral service will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, December 8th, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Spruce Pine.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Glover’s name to Mayland Community College’s Bare Dark Sky Observatory P.O. Box 547 Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
