
The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communication Center was recognized today in Raleigh, North Carolina, by the North Carolina 911 Board for its exemplary service during Hurricane Helene. The award honors the center’s commitment to keeping the community informed and safe during one of the most challenging times in Yancey County’s history.  Sheriff office 911 Gina Director Duncan and supervisor Courtney Wilson received the award.
Sheriff Shane Hilliard praised the 911 Communication Center’s efforts and the pivotal role they played during Hurricane Helene. “Our 911 team was the backbone of our emergency response during Hurricane Helene,” Sheriff Hilliard said. “They worked around the clock, fielding calls and dispatching first responders, all while dealing with the storm’s challenges themselves. This recognition is well-deserved, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
