It is with absolute heartbreak that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Mother, Aunt, Sister, Grandma, and Great Grandmother, Barbara Jean Macomber (80) of Spruce Pine, NC on Friday December 6, 2024, at the Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. Joining her beloved husband Jim in heaven, who passed just two months earlier.
Survived by her beloved daughters, Laurel Craghead of Smith Mountain Lake, VA, Karen Macomber of Spruce Pine, NC, Heather (John) Black of Mashpee, MA, Amy (TJ) Popillo of Forestdale, MA. Brother James (Karen) Cedergren of VT, brother Curt Cedergren of Lewiston, ME, brother Jon Cedergren of Lewiston, ME. Grandchildren Alexis, Serena, Jacob, Cameron and Great Grandson Ryder along with many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was born May 18, 1944, in Brockton, MA to the late Clifford and Alice (Kadish) Cedergren. Barbara was a stay-at-home mom to her daughters until her early 40’s when she went back to school to become an RN. She worked at the Brockton and West Roxbury, MA VA hospitals as a cardiac critical care nurse completing her career as a hospice nurse in Florida.
Always wanting to serve others in her retirement she volunteered with several pregnancy centers in Florida and North Carolina and was an Auxiliary Gideon in North Carolina in charge of the Mitchell County Women’s camp. Barbara also held weekly Bible studies at the Hope house in Spruce Pine wanting to share her love for Jesus with everyone she met.
Barbara and Jim found their true calling in the Mountains of North Carolina.
Barbara was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, a cherished friend who loved her church family dearly.
The Macomber family would like to invite family and friends to join them for a Celebration of Life for Barbara and Jim on Saturday January 4th, 2025, at 1pm at Bethel Baptist Church in Spruce Pine, NC.
