Joyce Remelle Koonts Sink, age 86, of Burnsville, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 13th, 2024. A native of Davidson County, she was the daughter of the late Garland and Edna Potts Koonts, and the beloved wife of the late James Ardell Sink, with whom she shared 64½ wonderful years of marriage before his passing on August 29, 2021.
Remelle and Ardell were married on June 23, 1957, during their college years, and together they built a life filled with love, joy, and commitment. They owned and operated numerous radio stations across the Carolinas, working side by side in the broadcasting industry for many years. Their dedication and service were recognized with several broadcast awards, including the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters’ Community Service Award. Remelle was not only a loving wife, but also the cornerstone of their family and business.
After Ardell’s passing, Remelle continued her work as CEO of Mark Media Radio Stations (WKYK andWTOE), a role she held with passion until her death. Her work ethic and commitment were unmatched, and she remained dedicated to the success of the company and the people who depended on her leadership. In addition to her work, Remelle and Ardell shared a love of travel and a fondness for their cats, who brought them much joy throughout their lives. She was a member of Brookstone Church in Weaverville. Remelle will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her legacy of love, dedication, and service will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Remelle is survived by her three children: Marsa Jarrett (Garry) of Simpsonville, SC; Michael Sink (Tina) of Burnsville; and Holly Hall (Steve) of Burnsville. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren: Corey Cianfarano (David), Clint Jarrett (Katie), Jacob Jarrett (Christina), Jeremy Sink (Donna), Jessica Sink Roland, Tressa Hennessee (Shannon), and Chris Hall (Misty). She also leaves behind 18 cherished great-grandchildren: Clara, Ava, Maxwell, Adalyn, Jenaca, Grayson, Carson, Lily, David, Myles, Mia, Victoria, Katie, Emma, Olivia, Isabel, Keaton, and Kason; as well as two brothers: Wayne Koonts (Anna) of Pawley’s Island, SC, and Wes Koonts (Teresa) of Greensboro.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2024 in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. A private graveside service will be held.
