Yancey County Grant for Home Replacement

Yancey County has received a $4,000,000 Community Development Block Grant – Neighborhood Revitalization (CDBG-NR) from the North Carolina Department of Commerce. This grant supports low-income homeowners by providing funding for safe and sanitary housing improvements.

To qualify for the CDBG-NR program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • The property must be located in Yancey County.
  • The property cannot be situated within a floodplain.
  • The applicant must own and occupy the property full-time. A legally prepared and recorded “Life Estate” or lifetime rights specified in an existing deed may also be accepted.
  • The total gross household income (before taxes) for all members over 18 must be below 80% of Yancey County’s median income (refer to the chart below).

The program is expected to assist up to 20 low-income homeowners. If you have previously applied, contact Morgan West, Yancey County Projects Manager, at (828) 682-3971 to check the status of your application.

Applications will be accepted until February 28, 2025. Paper applications are available at the Yancey County Manager’s Office, Department of Social Services, Cooperative Extension Office, Health Department, Senior Center, and Burnsville Town Hall.
