Joyce Lee Dellinger Dayton, age 86, of Spruce Pine, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Care Partners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville.
Born on November 21, 1938 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Fannie Ledford Dellinger. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Dayton, Sr. who passed away in 2005. Also preceding her in death was her granddaughter, Adrienne Dayton, daughter-in-law, Muffy Dayton, and her brothers, Jack and Tommy Dellinger.
Joyce was a member of the Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Ladies Auxiliary, and sang in the church choir. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, shopping, and watching her favorite television shows.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons; Robert “Bobby” Dayton, Jr. of Huntersville and Danny Dayton and wife, Tressa of Spruce Pine, her daughters; Susie Dayton and husband, Jim of Blountville, TN and Sherry Bell and husband, Jamie of Mt. Pleasant, SC, her brother, Jimmy Dellinger of Spruce Pine, her sisters; Shirley Gragg of Newland, Sue Spivey of Weaverville and Patsy Carpenter of Spruce Pine; eight grandchildren (Patrick, Christy, Drew, Michelle, Turner, Danielle, Jeb and Jameson) and twelve great-grandchildren ( Sadie, Jackson, Charlee, Clare, Wyatt, Nola, Benjamin, Aaron, Evee, Porter, Hampton, and Parrish) and several nieces and nephews.
A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be on Monday, December 30, 2024 from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 2:30 pm at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Shoupe officiating. Interment will be in the Harris Memorial Cemetery.
