
Yancey County DSS has received a small allocation of funding for rental assistance for individuals impacted by Hurricane Helene. Beginning Monday, December 30, applications will be available at our agency, on our agency website, or we can mail one to you. To be eligible, applicants must:

have been residing temporarily or permanently in Yancey County at the time of Hurricane Helene and currently reside in a disaster-declared county;

have experienced a housing-related crisis such as displacement from damage or destruction, or experiencing inability to pay rent or threat of eviction as a result of the disaster’s impact

have a household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.
After the application is submitted, a caseworker will contact applicants to review eligibility. Applicants will be required to provide a copy of their lease or other proof of the rental obligation, proof of income, and verification of identity. Approved applicants will be eligible for a one-time payment of $856 paid directly to the landlord. If you have any questions please call the agency at (828) 682-6148.
