“Peggy” Rosalie Buchanan, age 86, of Gouges Creek, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 6th, 2025 at Care Partners Solace Center.
A native of West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Dart and Marjie Warren Benfield. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Vergus Buchanan, who passed away in 2008; four sister: Salma McNella, Katherine McDowell, Leona Hughes and Betty Jo Buchanan; and two brothers, Kenneth and D.E. Benfield.
Peggy was employed as a seamstress at Blue Bell for 29 years, then worked for 10 years with Peppertree Resorts. She loved to dance, go fishing and shopping. She always had a need to help others. Her greatest love was for her family who were all so special to her, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters: Teresa McClellan (Richard) and Darla Gunter (Darryl), all of Spruce Pine; granddaughter, Crystal Miller (Brandon) of Asheville; grandson, Tony Gunter (Landri) of Gouges Creek.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15th, in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Lonnie McClellan will officiate. Burial will follow at the Buchanan Family Cemetery on Gouges Creek. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
