Bertha Mae Tipton Huskins

Bertha Mae Tipton Huskins, 91, of Snow Creek Road in Bakersville, N.C. died January 3 at Ashley River Healthcare in Charleston, S.C.  She was born on May 27, 1933 to John Walter and Pansy Boone Tipton.  She was married for 65 years to her late husband, Robert W. Huskins.

She was known as an excellent cook.  She had a green thumb and always had beautiful flower gardens.  She was also well known locally as an accomplished artist, and she especially enjoyed painting plants, flowers and local landscapes.  She was an outgoing lady who, having been blessed with a quick wit and great sense of humor, never met a stranger.  Even in her last days in a nursing facility, she brightened the days of the other residents with her smiles and waves.

She is survived by her four children: Rebecca Huskins of Camden, S.C., Deborah McTeer (Doug) of Early Branch, S.C., Robert Huskins of Camden, S.C., and Pam Courtney of Bakersville, N.C., a sister, Bernice Dixon (Jimmy) of Kingsport, Tennessee, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Arnold, Harry, Jay, Donny and Betty  and a grandchild, Kayla Huskins.

Bertha’s service will be held Sunday, January 19, at Lily Branch Baptist Church.  Visitation will begin at 2:00 followed by the service at 3:00.  Rev.
