Michael Kent Presnell, age 64, of Elk Park NC passed away January 19, 2025 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA after a year of declining health. Mike was born in Mitchell County on July 14, 1960. He was the son of James Presnell and the late Juanita Presnell.
Mike worked as a chef for several years creating delicious meals. He was a talented singer and musician and could play a variety of instruments. His voice was rich and clear. Lyrics he wrote conveyed the struggles and adversities he often faced. However, he refused to play the “blind card”.
Mike was blessed with the gift of making friends by being a true friend. He often said, “I’m not rich in money, but I am rich in friends”. In fact, Mike was able to live at home this past year because a group of special friends helped him realize that goal. Listening to Dr. Charles Stanley’s sermons and Bible passages were a source of strength and comfort as his health declined.
Left to cherish his memory are his father, James Presnell of Spruce Pine, sister, Kaye Hollifield of Spruce Pine, brother in law, Freddie Hollifield of Spruce Pine, sister, Janice Hughes of Marion, five nephews, one niece, and several great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother Juanita Presnell and several close friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Berry Chapel Baptist Church (280 Chapel Street Spruce Pine). A celebration of life will immediately follow the funeral service. The celebration of life will be held at Western Carolina Church (31 Cross Street Spruce Pine) at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to National Federation for the Blind.
