Carl Alvin Blankenship

Carl Alvin Blankenship, age 77, of Burnsville, stepped out of this world into his Heavenly Home on Saturday, January 25th, 2025 at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Alvin James and Lucille Arrowood Blankenship.  He is also preceded in death by his wife, Venitia Edwards Blankenship; sister, Kathleen Whitehead; and two brothers-in-law, Jim McMahan and J.M. Whitehead.

Carl was an avid fan of NASCAR.  He also enjoyed bear hunting and raising tobacco.  He and his wife loved going to the Gray Station Fair in Tennessee.  He was a good, caring, hardworking man who dearly loved his family and always had their back.

Surviving are his two sisters:  Maxine Scott (Frank) and Bernice McMahan, all of Burnsville; two brothers:  Zeke Blankenship (Elizabeth) of Colorado and Govan Blankenship (Jean) of Marshall; three nieces:  Kimberly Williams (Joe), Malena Robinson (James) and Sherry Corthell; three nephews:  Kevin Blankenship, Jamie Whitehead (Tina) and Ronnie Whitehead; and six great-nephews:  Kaleb Tipton (Maddison), Kannon Williams, Kenneth Payne, Jonathan Payne, Garrett Crain and Tyler Crain.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
