Mary Belle Buchanan Sparks, age 97, of the Estatoe Community, went Home to be with Jesus on Friday, January 24th, 2025. She was born on January 17th, 1928 to the late Counsel and Aggie Buchanan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John W. Sparks; son, Mike Sparks; three sisters: Pearl McKinney, Myrtle Ollis and Ruth Ollis; as well as three brothers: Charlie, Dean and Billy Buchanan.
Mary Belle fulfilled the word “Mom” to all her family. She always loved her family and her home, and her arms were always open to all of them. She loved working in her home, but more than anything enjoyed working in her yard and garden. She will be dearly missed by all the family, but they look forward to the day when they can all be with her again in Heaven.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Kay Sparks (Tony Panou); one granddaughter, Tammy Maltba (Joe), and two great-grandsons, Israel and Noah Maltba, whom she cherished, and Tammy’s mother, Pat Sparks. She is survived as well by two nieces, Patti Buchanan and Gail McGee, and extended family which includes Sammy Panou, Cindy Swofford and David Duncan.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29th, in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Pastor Brent Frady will officiate. Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Tony Panou for helping care for Mary Belle, as well as to Hospice, especially her nurses: Brandi Laws, Ashley and Dawn Warren, and to Liberty Hill Baptist Church for all their prayers.
