Franklin Hamilton died peacefully on Jan 26, 2025 at Yancey House. He was 101 1/2, and he wanted to make sure you remembered the half!
He served in WWII in the European Theater with the Army Artillery firing Howitzers. After the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary. They were married 78 years before her passing in 2023. He worked 40 years with Insley Manufacturing in Indianapolis making track hoes and spent months on the Alaskan Pipeline maintaining and repairing Insley’s that were working there.
He was active in many civic organizations and had a very strong Christian faith and served his church in many capacities.
He had a dazzling smile and was “movie star” handsome, gave bear hugs until you couldn’t breathe, and was a relentless practical joker. Basically, he was just a sweet man and will be so missed.
Franklin is survived by daughter, Bonita Wiedenhaupt of Burnsville, NC; son Dennis Hamilton (Cathy Ann) of Alexandria VA; grandchildren Jason Wiedenhaupt (Veleda), Kendra Simpson (Jason), Sarah Hamilton, and Marianne Hamilton Lopez (Noel); great grandchildren, Cole and Collier Simpson, Sebastian, Miles, and Elena Lopez, and Paisley Wiedenhaupt.
Funeral services are not being held at this time.
Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home is respectfully serving the Hamilton Family.
