Ann W. Moon

Ann W. Moon, age 77, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 27, 2025 in Asheville, NC.

Her father and mother were Witalis Stanislaw Winnicki and Czeslawa Winnicka, who left Poland during WWII to live in England’s Lake District. Ann was born on June 11, 1947 in Whitehaven, Cumberland County. When she was about 4 years old, they moved to Granby, Quebec, Canada where she learned French with neighborhood children, English where she attended Catholic schools throughout childhood, and continued speaking Polish at home. She graduated Magna cum Laude in Mathematics from Marianapolis College with a degree from University of Montreal. She spent her first year out of college working at the Bank of Montreal being trained by IBM in programming and system design. She met Henry C Moon at a dance on Nun’s Island on January 29, 1973. They dated for 3+ years before being married on October 9, 1976 at First Baptist Church, Montreal. In May 1977, they moved to Charlotte, NC, the city where Henry had lived before moving to Canada.

Ann worked for sixteen years with IBM in Charlotte, NC and finished her thirty plus year career in information technology in Feb 2009, after going in business for herself in 1993. Ann and Henry moved to Little Switzerland, NC in 2009. They had forty-eight good years together and on January 29, 2025 they would have celebrated fifty-two years since they met. Ann was a wonderful wife for all those years and was a very dedicated Roman Catholic all her life. She was a member of St. Lucien Catholic Church and a volunteer for the church’s Ave Maria Food Bank.

She enjoyed the beach, gardening, needlework, travel, cooking, living in Little Switzerland and visited many National Parks over the years. Her bright spirit will be forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved Ann.

Left to cherish her memories are husband; Henry C Moon, Sister-in-law; Carol Moon Hammock, three stepchildren; Hank (Utah), Sara Furlong (Richard) and Amy Moon (Florida), two grandchildren; Sean and Jamie Lett, Nephew Cason Hammock, Niece; Jennifer Hammock Mummert and four grandnieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass to be held on Saturday February 8, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Lucien Catholic Church in Spruce Pine, NC. Interment will follow at Grassy Creek Baptist Church, Spruce Pine.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to one of the following: Samaritan’s Purse (Boone, NC), St. Lucien Catholic Church (Spruce Pine, NC) Western Carolina Rescue Ministries (Asheville, NC).
