Ms. Sallie Senseney, science teacher at MHHS, recently received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching. This prestigious award is only given to around 100 teachers nationwide and is the highest recognition a K-12 teacher may receive for science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
Sallie stated, “The Presidential Award is a huge honor. This award serves as recognition of the many family members, educators, and mentors who lit the spark of curiosity in me, invested time and energy in me, and helped me become the teacher I am today. It reinforces my desire to continue learning and growing as a teacher in order to provide my students with the exciting, engaging, and meaningful learning opportunities they deserve.”
“Great teachers don’t just share knowledge—they ignite curiosity, inspire discovery, and shape the future. Ms. Senseny’s passion for science and dedication to her students have earned her this well-deserved honor. Congratulations on this incredible nationally recognized achievement!” Kathy Amos, Yancey County Schools Superintendent
