James William “J.W.” Dubba Proffitt

James William “J.W.” Dubba Proffitt, age 44, of Burnsville, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at his home. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Young “Bill” and Jolene Proffitt. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 2 brother, Bobby Joe Proffitt Sr. and Tracy Lee Hyatt.

Dubba never met a stranger and would make friends with anyone he could talk to. He loved animals and his all-time favorite pet ever was his dog, Cooper who crossed over the rainbow bridge three years ago. He was active in past years in Yancey County Special Olympics. He was an avid video game player, he loved country music, and his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. He loved anything and everything about the military and knew as much about each branch of service as he could learn. He loved water in all ways. From swimming, to boating at the lake, to going to the beach, he never met a body of water he didn’t like.

Surviving are his siblings: Donna and Bill Pressley of Dandridge, TN whom he made his home with for several years, Manon and Tonya Proffitt, Lloyd “L.R.” and Cathy Proffitt all of Leicester, as well as Bill and Diane Proffitt of Marion; and also 14 special nieces and nephews who held a very dear spot in his heart.

Memorial services will be planned and announced at a later date.

Dubba was definitely one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
