Michael “Mike” Lynn Peterson, age 74, of the Fork Mountain Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Arnold and Lucille Bennett Peterson. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years, Tina Hopson Peterson; brother, Dennis Peterson; and grandmothers: Frances Peterson and Jenny Bennett Peterson.
Mike served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a carpenter by trade, and also raised and worked in Christmas trees. He was a hardworking man, paying attention to detail in everything he did. He enjoyed fishing and loved traveling to Montana. He deeply loved all his family and his heart was always with each of them.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, David Peterson (Taylor) and Daniel Peterson (Faith), all of Bakersville; four grandchildren: Easton, Eliza, Eli and Emerson; a brother, Darius Peterson (Wilma) of Fork Mountain; two sisters, Anita Banner and Eunice Peterson, both of Spruce Pine; brother-in-law, Carols Hopson of Hampton, TN; and two sisters-in-law: Shelly Gouge (Joe) of Happy Valley, TN and Stephanie Edwards of Erwin, TN.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 7th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Burial will be private.
