Yancey County officials recently welcomed Acting FEMA Director Cameron Hamilton for a firsthand look at the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. During the visit, Hamilton met with Sheriff Shane Hilliard, and county leaders, to discuss ongoing recovery efforts and address concerns regarding FEMA’s response and assistance.
Sheriff Hilliard emphasized the significance of the visit, stating, “Having Director Hamilton here in our county to see the damage firsthand and listen to our concerns is invaluable. Our community has faced tremendous challenges, and we need to ensure FEMA understands the full scope of what we’re dealing with so that we receive the support necessary to rebuild.”
