Jerry Redding West was born May 11, 1941 in Lumberton, NC and went to the arms of Jesus on February 10, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents Silas and Mary Elizabeth Salmon West. His sister Alice (Bobby) Rice, brother Hugh Bucky West, two nephews Robert Rice and Ray Rice.
He is survived by nieces Rhonda (Michael) Harabedian, Cynthia (Ben) Turner. He leaves nieces Rachel Moore, Cassie Rice (son Gabriel), nephews Joshua (Kimberly) Bolen and their sons Carter and Asher, Christopher (Crystal) Bolen and their sons Mac and Ryder, Wyatt (Valerie) Rice and Peyton Schnee.
In his earlier years, he loved walking and visiting with his many friends. He loved fishing. He enjoyed tinkering with his tools, plucking on his guitar, listening to gospel music and working puzzles. He was a big fan of Mickey Mouse and John Wayne movies. Had he not been born with disabilities, he would have been a firefighter or police officer, he had so much respect for them. He loved his family as we all loved him.
A special thanks to our church Fairview Baptist Church for all of the love and compassion that was shown to Jerry over the years. You accepted him and loved on him and made him feel special. A sincere thanks to all of his care team, especially Katlyn Gortney for all her love and special care over the last 14 months. To all the nurses at Compassionate Care of WNC especially Laura Young, Della and Ashley. You were always there for him and for us when we needed you.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 16th at Fairview Baptist Church. Rev. Jeff Fox will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the services. Burial will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.
