A man from McDowell County has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting at a Dollar General in Old Fort on Sunday, Feb. 9.
Jacob Daniel Stewart, 22, faces a second-degree murder charge for the shooting death of his girlfriend’s father.
The Old Fort Police Department responded to a call reporting the incident on Saturday around 2:30 p.m. on Bat Cave Road.
According to Old Fort Police Chief Melvin Lytle, a dispute between the victim and his daughter’s boyfriend escalated into gunfire. Lytle confirmed that two shots were fired, resulting in the father’s death at the scene.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
