Bytha Ellen Huskins, age 91, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025 at her home in Altamonte Springs, Florida, surrounded by her family.
Ellen, as she was usually called, was born September 6, 1933, at home by the light of an oil lamp in Bevinsville, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Roseanne and Richard Hall, and survived all of her siblings except Charles Hall.
Ellen was married to Donald Huskins in 1950, and together they created a wonderful family consisting of four children, including Richard Huskins (wife, Elaine), Sharon Simonetti (husband, Tom), Cheryl Amirzadeh (late husband, Hossain) and Tammy Manos. She had nine grandchildren: Brandon, Anthony, Christopher, Sean, Sonia, Vanessa, Jordan, Alexander and Stephanie, all of whom adored their grandmother. Additionally, Ellen had ten great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She was so proud of her family.
Ellen and Don raised all their children in northeast Ohio where she worked at Kent State University, retiring after 20 years. She moved to Florida in 1991, where she lived for 34 years, splitting her time between Florida and North Carolina. Ellen and Don delighted in going to North Carolina each summer to be with family and friends. Ellen loved to cook, and spent many hours showing her love through fabulous meals. She loved to read, and swim at her local pool where she made more good friends.
Ellen was loved by all. She never met a stranger because her smile would evoke a return smile by everyone. She was an amazing mother and friend who will be truly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 17th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Rev. Jason Kritz will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Methodist Church Cemetery in Spruce Pine, NC. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the services.
