Deann Buchanan Peterson, originally from Burnsville, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 16th, 2025. She passed away unexpectedly. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of Grace Foxx of Burnsville and the late Lloyd Buchanan, who passed away in 2001. She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Earl and Esther Foxx, to whom she was very close.
For years, Deann was a private caregiver. Her kind and giving heart made her the perfect person to take care of others in their home. On Saturday’s, she would travel up the mountain from Marion and loved spending time with her family going to thrift stores, yard sales and enjoying their time together. She also enjoyed going to Cherokee and seeing the elk.
Left to cherish her memory is her mother, Grace Foxx of Burnsville; daughter, Amber Matson (Jeremy) of Marion; grandchildren: Cheyenne Rivas (Kevin) of Marion and Chapel Matson of Mars Hill; brothers: Marvin Buchanan (Tonya) of Bakersville and Jeffery Buchanan of Burnsville; uncle, Dennis Foxx and his family of Burnsville; special friend, Sylvester “Cy” Tester of Marion and friend, Deborah Grindstaff Rodriguez, also of Marion. Several other extended family also survive.
