Yancey County Schools held the 2nd annual Battle of the Books district competition on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Each elementary school was represented by a team of 4th and 5th grade students who committed to reading a total of 12 books. The teams included: the Blue Ridge “Wolfpack Warriors”, the Burnsville “Undercover Legends”, and the South Toe “Storm Readers.”

Mrs. Andrea Allen greeted the crowd and shared, “This program began through a desire to help instill a love for reading within our students. It is our hope that students have not only developed a love for reading, but have also gained new knowledge, fostered new friendships and gained leadership skills during their time with Battle of the Books.” She also thanked the parents, students and team coaches for their hard work to prepare for the battle. All of the teams represented their school well with the “Wolfpack Warriors” clenching the victory. They will now travel to Hickory, NC for the regional competition.
