Mitchell County currently has had two wildfires burning in the Loafer’s Glory area. Both blazes started Tuesday, March 11. Here are updates as of 10:00 AM:
Fred Sparks Road Fire – This fire is now reported as being 100% contained.
John Sparks Road Fire – This fire is now reported as being 20% contained. Firefighters from local fire departments and the Forest Service are on the scene working on containment. Back burn operations are being commenced by the Forest Service in an effort to control the spread of the fire. There will be significant amounts of smoke in the area from this fire, so please slow down if you are travelling in the Loafer’s Glory area today.
Remember that Mitchell County has a Burning Ban in place. Please avoid outdoor burning during this danger period.
