Robert Lee Woody, Jr

Robert Lee Woody, Jr. age 66, of the Spruce Pine community, went Home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 14th 2025. Robert was a son of the late Robert and Betty Goforth Woody. He was also preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Robert was known for his unrelenting curiosity and mechanical talent. Whether it was repairing a neighbor’s television, restoring an old chainsaw, or tinkering with the engine of a car, there was nothing that he couldn’t fix. If it had a motor, it was sure to find its way into his capable hands. Robert had a knack for understanding how things worked and a passion for making them run better, often to the delight of anyone who came to him for help.

But Robert wasn’t just known for his mechanical expertise. He was also an avid fisherman who cherished time spent on his boat, casting a line into the water and enjoying the peaceful solitude of the open water. A true friend and neighbor, Robert was always ready to lend a hand. Whether it was fixing a lawnmower for a neighbor or simply offering a listening ear, he was someone you could rely on. No task was too big or small for him, and his generosity of spirit and willingness to help others made him a cherished member of the community.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Crystal Peterson (Lyle) of Burnsville; brother, Rick Woody (Misty) of Spruce Pine; sisters: Sharon Hendry (Brian) of Raleigh, NC and Brenda Queen (Shelby) of Spruce Pine, NC; grandchildren: Kelsey Huskins (Kristian), Charles Byrd (Brittney) and Keaton Byrd, all of Burnsville, NC; 8 great-grandchildren; uncle, Billy Goforth (Norma) of Newland, NC; special friends: Linda and Jewel Putman. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive, who he cherished dearly.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 23rd in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.
