The N.C. Forest Service has lifted the statewide ban on all open burning effective 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 2. The ban, which started on March 21 due to hazardous forest fire conditions, has been lifted thanks to recent, much-needed rain.
Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler reminds us to stay vigilant during spring wildfire season, especially with recent wildfire activity in Western NC.
Important Details:
The lifting of the burn ban does NOT apply to fires within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling.
Local fire marshals have authority over burn bans within that 100 feet.
Burn permits are now available statewide. Obtain yours from any authorized agent or online at NC Burn Permits.
Safety Tips:
Always have a water source nearby when burning.
Never leave a fire unattended.
Clear the area of flammable materials before starting a fire.
Follow all local regulations and guidelines.
