Maxine Miller, age 88, of the Cane River Community, went Home to be with Lord on Sunday, March 30th, 2025. She was the oldest of four children; independent and a motherly figure to her sisters and her baby brother. A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Callie Revis Miller and the late Mack Thomas Miller.
Maxine earned a business degree at Berea College and then retired after working 26 years at Baxter Healthcare. She attended Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and spent her later years as a faithful servant throughout her community. She had a beautiful talent in crocheting and shared that talent with the children of her church by making each child a throw blanket. Her greatest joy was playing songs on the piano and worshiping her Savior. She was an excellent cook, but most of all she loved spending time with her friends and family.
Left to cherish her memory are her sisters: Emogene Tomberlin of Burnsville, Fannie Lou Miller of Burnsville; her brother: Roger Mack Miller (Phyllis) of Weaverville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Reverend Tim Hylemon will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Graveside services will follow in the Cane River Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Edwards, Robbie Boyer, Avery Austin, Dale Austin, Kevin Swann and Harley Fox.
The family would like to say thank you to Dale Austin for the special care that he took of Maxine.
