Mrs. Ruby Cook Cox, age 79, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Cox was born January 5, 1946, in Rome, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Romie John Lee Cook, late Tessie Mae Brown Cook and late Virginia Black (Stepmother).
Mrs. Cox was a devoted wife for over 61 years, a loving mother and “Granny”, sister and friend. She loved the Lord and loved spending time with her family any chance she got especially if it involved a few games of Yahtzee. She loved going to Hardee’s with her husband J.D. to spend time with their friends. She loved traveling to GA to visit family and traveling to the Beach for “Girls Trips” with her daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter. She loved music and loved to dance. She was an Administrative Assistant for Dr. John Marchese, OBGYN in Boone, NC for over 15 years until her retirement. She loved working and meeting all the patients. Her presence in the lives of all who knew and loved her will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox is preceded in death by her sisters: Sara Carver, Dorothy Adams, Mildred Cook, Jeanette Collins, Mary Ruth Beck, and Betty Gilmore; brothers: Jim Cook, Ervin Cook, Buck Cook and Bobby Cook.
Mrs. Cox is survived by her husband, John David “J.D.” Cox, Sr.; children, John “David” Cox, Jr. (Kelly), Charisse Cox Cuthbertson (Larry); grandson: Benjamin Cox; granddaughter: Michelle Cuthbertson South (Damon); great-grandchildren: Sawyer and Wyatt Cox, Timber and Thistlee South; brother, Rick Cook and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Funeral services to celebrate Ruby’s life will be held Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 3:30 PM, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she was a member, with Pastor Tony Clark and Pastor Gene Ammons officiating. Interment will follow in the John Johnson Cemetery.
Mrs. Cox’s family will receive friends Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church 2011 Spanish Oak Road Newland, NC.
The following family and friends will serve as pallbearers: David Cox, Benjamin Cox, Michelle South, Damon South, Jerry Markland and Dan South.
The family would like to thank Hospice & Home Care of the Blue Ridge for the excellent care they provided during her final days.
