Albert Franz Badschild

Albert Franz Badschild, 82, lovingly known as Opa, passed peacefully at home on Friday, April 4th, 2025.

Born in Munich, Germany, he immigrated to Burnsville, NC in 1978 after falling in love with the Black Mountains which he called his own personal Alps.

He was a doting grandfather, loving father, dutiful husband, and an entrepreneur. He bragged more about the days of school he skipped than any formal education, and subscribed to the school of life, preferring to live his own experiences rather than read about those of others. His lack of a degree proved no hindrance as he reshaped his community, becoming the owner and operator of the well-loved Albert’s Inn, and restaurant and motel in South Toe. He will be remembered as the ultimate host, and he provided the epitome of hospitality to his many customers and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the mother of his two daughters, Irmtraud Badschild, and his father, Xaver Badschild. He was also preceded in death by both his beloved mother, Fridoline Mehr, and his son, Alexander Badschild, with whom he was so excited to be reunited.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Badschild; his three daughters: Daniela Busetti (Dieter), Beatrix Badschild (Franz), and Vanessa Schilling (Cooper); their children: Christian Busetti (Kristina), Jessica Busetti, Jasmin Busetti, Sebastian Fuchs, Sarah Fuchs, Kayden Badschild, Jace Schilling, Xander Schilling, and a great-granddaughter, Elena Busetti, whom he got to meet in 2024.

He asked for no pomp and circumstance in his absence, but would hope you will lift a glass in his honor and live your lives with joy and positivity.

An informal memorial will be held for friends and family at a later date.
