Mary Boone Dodson was born in Avery County, North Carolina on April 16, 1948. After living a full life, Mary passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on April 3, 2025.
Mary grew up in the Plum Branch Road Community of Burnsville. She graduated from East Yancey High School in 1966 and attended Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. After living in places like North Carolina, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Massachusetts, Mary returned to Yancey County and the Plumb Branch Road Community.
Mary was a lifelong churchgoer and follower of Christ, and was most recently an active member of Victory Baptist Church in Burnsville, NC. She loved all animals, especially dogs. She also loved travel, music, fashion and jewelry, and arts & crafts.
She was preceded in death by: her father, Starlan Boone; her mother, Jewel Boone; and brother, Wayne Boone. Left to mourn her loss are: her husband, Bruce Dodson; nephew, Aaron Boone (Ashley Chu); great nephew, Travis Boone; nephew, Jason Leisner; great niece, Zoe Leisner; sister-in-law, Libby Charvat (Larry Charvat); step-daughter, Laura Dodson-Pennington (Thomas Horsch); granddaughter, Sarah Pennington Broom (Kyle Broom); great grandsons, Colton and Carter Broom; step-son, Alan Dodson (Kelley LeBlanc); grandson, Asher Dodson; beloved pets, Brandy and Shadow; and many family and friends.
No public services are planned; a private internment will occur at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends may honor Mary with a contribution to Victory Baptist Church at 1215 Bear Wallow Rd., Burnsville NC 28714. Sympathy cards and well wishes may be sent to Bruce Dodson at 586 Plum Branch Road, Burnsville NC 28714.
