Bennie Gene Edwards, age 84, of Bald Mountain, NC, passed away at home on Thursday, April 10th, 2025. He was the first son of the late Arthur and Mae Haney Edwards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Creed Edwards, and a son, Michael Edwards.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Diana Edwards; his daughter, Jacqueline Edwards of Burnsville, NC; his son, James Edwards (Rachel); and his adored grandchildren: Matthew, Liam and Ava of LaPorte, IN; and his brothers: Donald Edwards (Brenda) of Burnsville, NC and Dean Edwards (Angie) of Fairplay, SC; along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ben was born on Bald Mountain. After his graduation, he left with his uncle, Paul Haney, to work in Indiana. He worked with U.S. Steel Gary Works for six years, then he joined Ironworkers Local #395 and retired in 2004. He always longed to return home to the beauty and mountains of North Carolina. He was happy to purchase a home in his Bald Mountain Community among his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and nature. His great joy, later on in life, was his grandchildren.
Per Ben’s wishes, there will be no service. He has requested, in place of flowers, to please send donations to Madison Home Care and Hospice at P.O. Box 69, Marshall, NC 28753, for their compassionate care and help during his strong battle against cancer.
