DJ Jones, age 83, of Wes Jones Road, the Powdermill community of Avery County, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at his home.
Born on July 13, 1941 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Howard and Amanda Buchanan Jones. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters; Margaret, Helen and Carolyn and his step daughter; Missy Harwood.
DJ was a dedicated member of Yellow Mountain Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the 1st Calvary as a helicopter gunner from 1965 – 1966. He was retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections following nineteen years of service. He enjoyed working in his garage restoring old classic vintage cars. He also enjoyed racing and riding motorcycles and 4-wheelers.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife; Brenda Jones of the home, his daughter; Shannon Bullard and husband, Lee of Russellville, TN, his brothers; Bo Jones of Minneapolis, Danny and Roger Jones both of Newland, his sister; Kathy Buchanan of Newland, his grandchildren; Ethan Hughes, Sherry Bullard, Brittany Dellinger and husband, Josh, Dalton and Colton Buchanan and Rylan Harwood, his great grandchildren; Draven Bullard, Madalyn and Travis Hughes, Jovi, Judah, Emberlyn, Arrow, Atlas and Eleanor Dellinger.
A time to share memories, support the family and receive friends will be on Friday, April 18, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The service honoring the life of DJ Jones will be on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Dustin Dellinger officiating. Interment will be in Yellow Mountain Cemetery.
