Joseph David “J.D.” Biggs

Joseph David “J. D.” Biggs, age 74, of the Shoal Creek Community, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at his home.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Leonard and Madge Elkins Biggs.  He was also preceded in death by his son, James David “Peanut” Biggs; sisters:  Ruby Cutway, Marlene Riddle, Adalee Robinson and Helen Edwards; brothers:  Howard Biggs, Homer Biggs, Jay Brian Elkins, Bobby Biggs, and Richard Biggs.

J. D. was a U. S. Army Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.  He was a musician, who loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He adored his four-legged companions: Camilla, Daisy and Toby.

Surviving is his devoted wife of almost 54 years, Nancy Black Biggs; grandsons: Jeffery David Biggs of Burnsville and Jeremy Daniel Biggs (Samantha) of Asheville, Tyler Lee Biggs of South Carolina, and Kayson David Biggs of Burnsville; granddaughter: Haley Grace Biggs; Jamie Biggs, the mother of his great-grandchildren: Abigail and Oliver, also of Burnsville;  great-granddaughters: Abigail Rose Biggs, Brooklyn Danielle Biggs, and great-grandsons: Oliver Jo Biggs and Jensen David Biggs; his brother, Gary Biggs of Greeneville, TN and also want to mention Scott Webb, who was like an adopted son to J. D. and Nancy.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19th at Yancey Funeral Services.  The family will then go in procession for a 2 p.m. graveside service to be held in the Dulaney Cemetery on Shoal Creek Road.  Rev. Roy Whitson will officiate.  Pallbearers will be:  Brian Jones, David Robinson, Dan Pecci, Corey Ramsey, Matthew Waldrop and Kenny Waldrop.  Honorary pallbearers will be:  Ken Waldrop, Abigail Biggs and Oliver Biggs.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to A. J. Simmons and all the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for the wonderful love, care and compassion shown to J. D. and his family during this time.  The family would also like to say a special thank you to Mark and the wonderful staff of Yancey Funeral Services for always loving and taking care of their family.
