It is with great sadness that the family announces that Gary McKinney, age 81, passed away on Wednesday April 23, 2025, leaving behind his daughter, Sissy McKinney (Charlie) of Unicoi and his sons, Tracy McKinney (Donna), of Erwin and Brownie McCann (Tracie) of Bakersvile, several cousins, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Gary was a native of Bakersville, NC and the son of the late Vernon and Ruth Stewart McKinney. He graduated from Bowman High School and Oak Ridge Military Academy. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Janice Moffitt McKinney.
He enjoyed tinkering with old cars, NASCAR and his heavy equipment. Some of you will remember him as the owner of the Roan body shop in Bakerville. He was so loved by his family. More notably, he was a child of God and worshiped his Lord and Savior.
Pray for his children as they honor him Sunday, April 27th. 2025 at 3:00 pm at the Spring Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Stafford and Randy English officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in the Middle District Freewill Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin McKinney, Larry Gortney, Josh Randolf, Todd Gortney, Roger Garland and Charles Davis.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Brittany Wilson and the staff of the Christian Care Center of Unicoi County.
