Margaret Ann McGee Buchanan, age 90 of Spruce Pine passed away at home on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, into the arms of Jesus.
Margaret was a faithful member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church for over sixty years. She was a devoted Sunday School Teacher, choir member, Bible School worker and church custodian.
Margaret was born in Mitchell County to the late Elliott Lenoir McGee and Mary Henline McGee Ellis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-eight years, Waites Avery Buchanan, who passed away in 2021, her brother Robert (Bobby) McGee and a son in law David L. Ollis.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Ava Hollifield (Ken) of Spruce Pine and Sherry Ollis of Winnabow, NC. Grandchildren, Damien Hollifield (Amanda) and Matt Hollifield (Kayla) of Spruce Pine, Kelly Ollis Stegall of Winnabow, NC and Michelle Ollis Moore (Quisto) of Leland, NC. Great grandchildren, Chloe Hollifield of Palm Coast, FL, Keiland, Keslyn, Karter and Kollins Hollifield of Spruce Pine, Jordan, Avery and Elliot Stegall of Winnabow, NC, and Knox Lee and Townes McGee Moore of Leland, NC, step grandchildren, Kim Hollifield O’Day (Steve) of Cumming, GA and Brett Hollifield (Charlotte) of Youngsville, NC, Step great grandchildren, Caitlin, Cami and Brooke O’Day and Dylan, Alex and Sydney Hollifield. She is also survived by nieces Mary Ann McGee Hanna and Lisa McGee Costley of Moore, SC.
Margaret was born and raised most of her life in Spruce Pine. She was a graduate of the Harris High Class of 1952. She was very active in track and basketball. She worked at the News Center in downtown Spruce Pine, Avery’s Market, Ellen’s Knitting Mill and later at a local dress shop. Most of her work was as a dedicated homemaker. If you visited her, you knew! She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt who left us precious memories for a lifetime.
Funeral services for Margaret Buchanan will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday April 26, 2025, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church with the Revs. Toby Crowder, Don Ford and Nathan Silver officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the service hour at the church. Interment will follow in the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
