On Wednesday, April 30, Mitchell High School FFA members Caleb Garland, Cadee Boone, Gavin Burleson, Lachlan Tunks, and Elijah Hughes competed at the 2025 NC FFA West Region Rally in Flat Rock, NC at Blue Ridge Community College. Students had a great time and stepped out of their comfort zone trying out new Career and Leadership Development Events (CDE’s/LDE’s).
The Nursery Landscape team, consisting of Cadee Boone, Caleb Garland, Gavin Burleson, and Lachlan Tunks placed 5th in the Region and 2nd in the Federation.
The objectives of the Nursery Landscape CDE include:
- Identification of landscape plant material and plant disorders;
- Utilization of cultural practices such as growing techniques;
- Design and construct of landscapes; and
- Demonstration of effective written and oral communication skills.
Elijah Hughes competed in Extemporaneous Public Speaking and placed 5th in the Region and 3rd in the Federation.
