This season, Dig In! Yancey Community Garden invites friends and neighbors to their garden on Saturdays for a series of all-ages events for skill sharing and community building! The events will typically be on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month at their West Yancey garden, though some will vary in location or date.
The next Saturday in the Garden event is a pre-Mother’s Day song circle from 1-4 pm on Saturday, May 10 at their garden (744 Blankenship Creek Rd). Yancey County resident April Rainsong will be leading the song circle, and attendees can also contribute to painting a mural with mountains, flowers, veggies, and more inside one of the small outbuildings at the garden. Bring a potluck dish or a picnic lunch to share!
Other upcoming events include a biochar production workshop (a climate-friendly way to sequester carbon using woody debris), garlic planting, tool repair cafe, and flower painting. Most of the events are completely free and open to all ages. To see the full events calendar, visit their website www.diginyancey.org, and keep up to date with the latest information on their social media accounts (@diginyancey on Facebook and Instagram). These events are an opportunity to cultivate new connections and share learning, joyfulness, art, and more in their beautiful Garden.
Since 2010, Dig In has been dedicated to growing and sharing fresh, local food free of charge in Yancey County. For 15 years, the gardens have been a place where many different people come together to learn, share, build relationships, and contribute to a stronger, more resilient community. Volunteer work together days are Friday mornings, 9:30 am to noon.
