The Toe River Chamber Ensemble is set to perform two concerts this spring, inviting the community to enjoy an evening of live orchestral music. The first performance, the Annual Spring Concert, will take place on Tuesday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on the Burnsville Town Square. The second concert is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, 6:30 pm and will be held outdoors at Homeplace Beer Company, weather permitting.
Both concerts are free and open to the public, with donations warmly accepted. Contributions help support the ensemble and ensure the continuation of its music programs.
Under the direction of R. Kevin Paul, now in his second season as conductor, the ensemble will perform a lively and engaging selection of classical and contemporary pieces. Known for his enthusiasm and humor, Paul brings energy and challenge to the group, inspiring both musicians and audience members alike.
Founded in 1976, the Toe River Chamber Ensemble is a community orchestra made up of 25 to 30 volunteer musiciansfrom across Yancey, Mitchell, Madison, and Buncombe counties. The group includes players of all ages and backgrounds who gather weekly to share their love of music.
The ensemble has benefited from decades of passionate and visionary leadership. Rehearsals are held weekly at the First Baptist Church in Burnsville, which also serves as the primary concert venue. Originally organized by the Toe River Arts Council, the ensemble became an independent nonprofit organization in November 2022, though it continues to express deep gratitude for TRAC’s years of support and partnership.
The Toe River Chamber Ensemble is a North Carolina-based, unincorporated nonprofit that operates solely through the generosity of donors. For more information, visit Facebook at facebook.com/toeriverchamberensemble.
