The Pensacola Loving Arms Women’s Group held a “Clean Water Information Forum”, May 3rd, for the residents of the Pensacola Fire District. The meeting was for the purpose of helping their community learn the importance of water testing, how to be pro-active in understanding their individual water situation, whether it be spring or well water. Also addressing how the mica sediment that is coming through their systems is affecting their homes. The discussion covered the fact that homes having water filtration systems, may no longer be adequate for the amount of sediment coming through their lines.

The group is working with a nonprofit Christian organization out of Boone, Water To Wine, to provide Free qualified lab water testing for all of the Pensacola Fire District. To sign up for testing go to: wtw.org / “WNC” / “ water testing “ / when entering Burnsville, add “PFD” to indicate the Pensacola Fire Distract. You will be contacted by phone to schedule a Free complete panel of water testing. The Pensacola Loving Arms is also actively perusing water filtration companies for help in providing the proper filtration system for each house. They are requesting that everyone complete a written survey that will give with documentation of the exact needs of the community’s clean water needs. These surveys can be picked up and dropped off at the Wilson Grocery Store, 9601 State Hwy. 197-S., outside drop box.

Helene devastated thousands of homes in Western North Carolina, and made the basic need of clean water in the rural areas overwhelming for families. The aquifer underground water supply that feeds our springs and wells has been shifting and changing over these last 7 1/2 months. The springs and shallow wells were affected first, and now in the Pensacola area we are finding that the mica-filled sediment is beginning to come up through even our deep well systems into our homes. The Pensacola Loving Arms non-profit group is applying for assistance through grant funding and private donations for our community. The group is prioritizing the needs and resources needed to provide their neighbors with the proper water filtration system for every home that they can in the Pensacola Fire District.
