Mildred Patricia Edwards, age 84, of the Piney Hill Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, at CareParters Hospice Solace Center. Originally a native of Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Ganor Johnson and Ruby School Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Albert Rexter Edwards; a daughter, Ellen Murphy; infant son, Artie Paul Edwards; a brother, Jerry Merrell; and two sisters: Betty Causby and Karen Coates.
Mildred lived her life as a devout Christian and her life always reflected that. She was very close to her husband and loved spending time with him. Her interests included knitting and crocheting, but her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Evelyn Cox (David) of Crossnore and Jonathan Edwards (Adneia) of Morganton; two grandsons: Christopher Paul Edwards of Morganton and Jordan Cox of Newland; great-grandson, Jadeyon Cox; a sister, Margaret Perry (Roy); and six brothers: Gary Johnson (Audrey), Keith Johnson (Rita), Mike Johnson (Tamara), Jay Johnson (Donna), Malcolm Johnson (Pam), and Anthony Johnson (Christy). She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 15th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Pastor Kevin Crawford will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 16th at the Edwards Family Cemetery on Piney Hill.
