The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Steven Alex Hollifield, of Green Mountain, following an investigation into a tip received by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Detective Jason Edmonds, with the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office, charged Hollifield with twenty (20) counts of Third Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. These charges stem from the online possession and/or the online distribution of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors. The investigation began after the ICAC Task Force received a report indicating potential illegal activity. Detective Edmonds worked to identify the suspect and gather the necessary evidence to move forward with charges. Sheriff Shane Hilliard stated, “Our office remains committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community. We are thankful for the resources and support provided by ICAC and proud of the professional work done by our investigators.” Hollifield is currently held at the Yancey County Detention Center under a $250,000 bond.
