The Mitchell County Economic Development Commission (EDC) announced that it has entered into a contract with Bill Slagle as its new Economic Development Director. Slagle brings extensive experience in economic development and business recruitment to the role, having most recently served for ten years as Business and Industry Recruiter for the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC).

This appointment marks a significant step forward for the Mitchell County EDC, which has been without a director since August 2024. Slagle will officially assume his new role on May 19, 2025.

“We are thrilled to welcome Bill Slagle to Mitchell County,” said Charles Vines, Chairman of the EDC Board. “His statewide experience, regional and local knowledge, and strong relationships with both public and private partners make him an exceptional choice to lead our economic development efforts. We are confident that under his leadership, Mitchell County will continue to grow and attract new opportunities for our residents and businesses.”

In his previous role at EDPNC, Slagle worked with communities and companies across North Carolina to attract new industry and support existing business expansion. His background also includes strategic planning, workforce development, and infrastructure improvement initiatives, making him well-suited to address Mitchell County’s economic priorities.

“I’m honored to join the Mitchell County Economic Development Commission and excited about the potential we have to strengthen the local economy,” said Bill Slagle. “This county has a strong foundation and a dedicated community. I look forward to working with local leaders, entrepreneurs, and regional partners to bring lasting growth and opportunity to the people of Mitchell County.”

Slagle’s hiring signals a renewed focus on job creation, business retention, and community development across the county.
