The Orchard at Altapass proudly launches its 2025 music season with the third annual Pipes on the Parkway on Saturday, June 7, from noon to 4 PM. This vibrant celebration of Appalachian Scots-Irish heritage will fill the Blue Ridge Mountains with the stirring sound of bagpipes and traditional Celtic music, honoring the region’s cultural roots.
Pipes on the Parkway commemorates the “Great Migration” of the 1700s, when thousands of Scottish immigrants traveled the Great Wagon Road or crossed into Appalachia, shaping Western North Carolina’s identity. The afternoon will include a dynamic lineup of traditional live music that will capture the spirit of our region, including bagpipes from Queen City Pipes & Drums, lively jigs and passionate ballads from The Jig is Up, and a communal gathering of traditional Celtic musicians for an Open Celtic Session.
“We’re thrilled to bring this piece of our heritage to life,” said Beth Hilton, Executive Director. “Pipes on the Parkway is a unique opportunity for locals and visitors alike to connect with the music and history that define our community.”
