SEARCH Needs Volunteers to Conduct Health Study

search-10

SEARCH is looking for volunteers to help conduct a CASPER public health study on June 27 and 28, 2025, in Mitchell and Yancey Counties. The study will assess the ongoing impact of Hurricane Helene on our community and help understand how residents are recovering.

CASPER, or Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response, is a nationally recognized method developed by the CDC to gather statistically valid data following a disaster. Volunteers will work in small teams to go door-to-door conducting surveys with residents about their health, storm-related impacts, and access to resources. This is an excellent opportunity for public health students or anyone interested in rural health and emergency response to get meaningful, hands-on field experience.

Volunteers will receive a stipend of $75 per day. We are ideally looking for people who can commit to both days, but we welcome volunteers who are only available for one day as well.

If you’re interested, please fill out this form and indicate your availability. This work will have a real impact on our region’s ability to recover and prepare for future emergencies. Please share this opportunity with anyone in your network who might want to get involved. Email searchwnc@gmail.com with any questions.
