Jupper Phillips

Jupper Phillips, age 71, of the Bald Mountain community, went Home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born to Genevieve Phillips and the late Bronis Curl Phillips, Jupper was a man deeply rooted in faith, family, and the land he loved. A longtime resident of Yancey County, he was a member of Higgins Baptist Church. He found joy and peace in the simple pleasures of life—reading his bible, farming, hunting, and tending to his garden.

Jupper was a proud father and grandfather. He is survived by his son, Lucas Jupper Phillips; and two daughters: Kelly R. Phillips and Brandi Phillips; he had nine cherished grandchildren: Lucas Elijah Phillips, Ashton Blake Phillips, Cuylan John Dellinger, Cambria R. Dellinger, Jessi Cole Clark, Tennyson Phillips, Lliam Phillips, Remmi Phillips, and Cari Phillips.

He is also survived by two sisters: Sonya Russell of Marion and Pat Black (Gene) of Shelby; and one brother, Cash Phillips of Burnsville; Jupper also had three nieces, three nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, John Daniel Phillips; his nephew, Jeremy Shane Phillips; and his niece, Michelle Quintero.

Jupper will be remembered for his deep love of family, unwavering faith, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. His stories, laughter, and steady presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on  Wednesday, June 11 in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Burial will follow in the Phillips Cemetery on Riddle Branch Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
