Forest landowners suffered tremendous loss when Hurricane Helene leveled 822,000 acres of forestland, leaving many forestland owners in Yancey County struggling to figure out how to recover and restore their properties.

To help forest landowners, NC State Extension Forestry, and NC Cooperative Extension of Yancey County will be collaborating to present a workshop on Saturday, June 28, 2025, starting at 10 AM at the Yancey County Senior Center (located at 503 Medical Campus Dr. in Burnsville).  Several topics that will help landowners more successfully recover will be addressed including “Taxes and Investment Decisions in the Wake of Hurricane Helene”, “Cost Share Opportunities and Resources Available for Recovery of Forestland”, “Forest Management After Helene”, and Fire Resiliency and Mitigation After Hurricane Helene.

Lunch will be provided and there is no cost to attend this workshop.  However, seating is limited and registration is required to help with meal planning.  Those wanting to register for this program can do so online at http:go.ncsu.edu/yancey_forestry.  Participants can also register by calling the NC Cooperative Extension Yancey County Center.  For more information about the upcoming workshop, to request accommodations due to a disability, or to register by phone contact David Davis (david_davis@ncsu.edu) at the NC Cooperative Extension Yancey County Center by calling (828) 682-6186.
