Mitchell High School senior Nanci Romero-Juarez has been awarded the Charles C. and Suzanne R. McKinney Scholarship, a four-year award valued at $20,000. She is among 94 students across 59 schools in 20 Western North Carolina counties selected to receive scholarships from The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC).

In total, CFWNC approved $586,500 in scholarships this year. The selection process involved more than 50 community volunteers who reviewed applications to choose recipients based on a range of eligibility criteria.

Scholarship funds managed by the Foundation vary in scope—some are open to students across the region, while others are tied to specific counties, fields of study, or schools.

CFWNC partners with families, businesses, and nonprofits to strengthen local communities through charitable giving. Since its founding in 1978, the Foundation has awarded more than $387 million in grants and now manages over 1,300 charitable funds. More information is available at www.cfwnc.org.
